OPEN* Critical Worker Benefit Update

The Alberta Critical Worker Benefit Application portal has opened here.


We have received many questions about eligibility of certain sectors. Provided down below is an expanded version of sectors that will be eligible.


Food and Beverage Stores (445 NAICS) – Liquor and cannabis stores are not eligible

44521 Meat markets

44522 Fish and seafood markets

44523 Fruit and vegetable markets

44529 Other specialty food stores


Health and Personal Care Stores (446 NAICS) – Cosmetics, beauty and fragrance stores are not eligible

44611 Pharmacies and drug stores

44613 Optical goods stores

44619 Other health and personal care stores


Gas Stations (447 NAICS)

44711 Gasoline stations with convenience stores

44719 Other gasoline stations


Payment will be received by the employer and will be distributed to employees via regular payroll. Employers will need to deduct the necessary income tax, CPP, and EI as it will be considered "employment income."
